iotaCenter, a nonprofit organization that supports experimental film and video, is holding its annual fundraising auction.
Organizers have collected donations of animation drawings, artwork, and photos from members and supporters. The event is for members, only, but anyone can visit the event’s online auction listing pages, and join during the auction.
Among items offered are artwork by innovative experimentalists Paul Glabicki, Adam Beckett, and Sky David; a collage portrait of Adam Beckett by Byron Werner; and a private screening of rarities curated by Mark Toscano at the Museum of Jurassic Technology.
Founded in 1994, the iotaCenter aims to foster the creation, exhibition, preservation, and study of experimental film and video. It maintains an archive, website, and library, and collects and preserves films, videos, and material. It has been best known for its Kinetica series of touring festivals of historical and new works of abstract film and video art. That program has been temporarily discontinued, but many of its selections are now being issued through Iota’s DVD series, The Kinetica Video Library.
Among other Iota programs are partnerships with Northeastern University’s Visual Music Marathon and the group Mad Actions, which coordinates the Punto y Raya (Dot and Line) touring festival, which showcases abstract films created solely from dots and lines.
Iota also works often with small Los Angeles venues to exhibit screenings of films and videos from its collection, which focuses on abstract film, animation, and films from West Coast artists.
To take part in the iotaCenter auction, you can become a member before bidding or have the membership fee, $35, added to your invoice.
