Head of Preservation & Professor of Library Administration
The University of Illinois Library www.library.illinois.edu is looking for someone to lead its preservation and conservation program for analog and digital materials and to continue expanding its general and special-collections holdings. The appointee will oversee preservation reformatting, the media preservation program, and analog preservation and conservation services, and will work with other campus personnel to acquire, create, preserve, and provide access to digitized or ‘born-digital’ materials.

Film Stills Project Assistant
The Harvard Film Archive’s (HFA) Conservation Center seeks a Film Stills Project Assistant to identify, preserve, and create metadata for stills and other film ephemera in its Lothar and Eva Just Film Stills Collection. The appointment is for eight months, at the the HFA Conservation Center in Cambridge, Mass., under the direction of the associate head of metadata & cataloging. The appointee will create a finding aid and rehouse the collection into archival containers.
Film and Media Cataloger
The University of South Carolina at Columbia’s library system is looking for a full-time faculty librarian to catalog for Moving Image Research Collections (MIRC). The successful candidate will be responsible for original and complex copy cataloging of archival film and video tape in many formats, and will devise and implement metadata-migration strategies as part of ongoing digitization efforts.
MIRC is one of the largest public film archives in the United States, with more than 6,000 hours of material in its collections. Major holdings include the Fox Movietone News Collection, local television news, home movies from the region, and a substantial collection of documentary and fiction films from the People’s Republic of China. MIRC is an AMIA member.
Qualifications include: a master’s or equivalent degree; experience with cataloging tools and standards; knowledge of non-MARC metadata standards; and at least one year of cataloging experience. See website (search by Requisition 002980) for preferred qualifications, including experience with automated library-system and archiving software; knowledge of film, video tape, and moving image file formats and generations; and a bibliographic knowledge of Chinese.

Hoover Institution Visual-Collections Archivist
The Hoover Institution is hiring a full-time assistant archivist for visual collections to a three-year term, with continuing appointment upon review. The appointee will manage the reference, preservation, and duplication services of a vast collection of photographs, video tapes, and motion picture film. Qualifications include a master’s degree in library and information science or equivalent with significant course work in preservation, cataloging, and processing of visual materials, and an undergraduate degree in history, political science, or related field, and strong knowledge of 20th century history.
Also: experience in a photo or moving-image archive, library, or similar organization. See also.
