LAC Group is looking for a highly-experienced and qualified Media Taxonomist for what it calls “a prestigious media company located in New York (Manhattan).”
The Media Taxonomist’s focuses will be to create documentation for managing taxonomies and thesauri and to develop and implement metadata and media strategies.
LAC says the ideal candidate will have experience in developing taxonomies, formal ontologies, thesauri, and other types of controlled vocabularies, and will also have experience in creating and implementing metadata schemas, be familiar with data-management standards, tools, and technologies (e.g. XML, XSLT, RDF, SQL), and have some experience or familiarity with relevant metadata, file formats, and standards related to broadcast media, such as PBCore, EBU Core, MPEG21.

Historic New Orleans Collection
The Historic New Orleans Collection is accepting applications for the position of Programmer/Systems Analyst, working full time Monday through Friday.
The analyst reports to the director of systems and is responsible for providing programming support as needed for the development of new and existing digital projects, as well as for the development of new functionality and features of the institution’s website and online catalog.
The programmer/systems analyst will assist the digital assets manager in the design and implementation of digital asset repository technologies for digital preservation as well as the development of integrated digital exhibits on the institution’s website. The successful candidate will work with the manager of internet & interactive development to implement new functionalities into The Collection’s website. The position is responsible for researching, testing, making recommendations, designing and helping develop software solutions for The Collection’s collection management system, (MINT by MINISIS Inc.), digital preservation and institutional repositories, and web-based digital programs.
The programmer/systems analyst will also work with staff to identify and implement software solutions for in-house workflow and efficiency enhancements, as well as software solutions for delivering The Collection’s holdings to visiting researchers and via the internet. As a member of the systems department, the programmer/systems analyst is expected to assist the network manager with general server and PC maintenance and roll out and other systems department duties and functions as required.

Film and Digital Media Archivist
Oddball Film+Video, a San Francisco based stock footage company seeks a part-time, tech-oriented film and digital media archivist with a command of analog and digital technologies interested in working with archival content and creative projects.
The company specializes in providing offbeat and unusual footage for feature films, documentaries, and web-related projects, and has extensive 16mm, 35mm film, analog tape, and digital media archives.
Responsibilities include set up, configuration, operation, and trouble shooting of 16mm film, analog tape, and digitally based editing systems; transfer and migration of 16mm film and analog video to digital media; logging of footage and metadata into databases; research footage requests and deliver preview and master footage to clients in a variety of analog and digital formats; and database maintenance and knowledge of digital back up systems.
Requirements include a working knowledge of all professional analog and digital media including 16mm film, video tape recorders, and digital media hardware; experience with digital software tools such Final Cut Pro and Photoshop; working knowledge of archiving and database programs such as Filemaker Pro; knowledge of historical events and use of archival stock footage; excellent analytical, organizational and writing skills.
Compensation is negotiable based on skill set and experience commensurate with position.
